Plas Dinam Country House Wedding
If you’re planning a Plas Dinam Country House wedding and want the whole weekend to feel like your place, not a venue hire, you’ll get it.
Lowri and Dan brought everyone to Plas Dinam for the bank holiday to eat, drink, stay up late, and make it personal.
Why Plas Dinam Works for a Whole Weekend
Plas Dinam is one of those places that doesn't feel like a venue, it feels like someone handed you their sprawling old country house and said “have at it.”
Big bedrooms for your mates to crash in. The glass-roofed stables for dinner that turns into dancing. Rolling hills out every window. No 11 pm cut-off. It’s built for the people who want their wedding to be a house party with a ceremony in the middle.
Lowri grew up in Wales, so this felt like coming home. They hired it for the whole bank holiday weekend to really settle in with family and friends.
The Ceremony in the Woods
These two didn’t want anything too structured or forced. The ceremony was in the woodlands above the house, looking out over the hills, a proper Welsh countryside backdrop, with no decorations needed. Speeches happened when they felt right and people spilled outside with beers, with Dan taking charge of Cocktail hour canapés all made by him the day before… Just another reason that this entire weekend felt deeply personal!
I always try to work quietly, letting things happen. Some of my favourite photos from the day aren’t of the ceremony or speeches at all, but the in-between bits that give a better sense of the feeling of the day. A romantic, relaxed, backyard-wedding energy but scaled up to fit a country house.
They wated to give friends and family a weekend that felt like them. It was also Dan’s birthday. So naturally there were two matching cakes (wedding and birthday) and a massive tiramisu. Because, why not?
Photography at Plas Dinam
Plas Dinam is a dream for documentary wedding photography in Wales.
Huge windows. Weathered textures. A stables space that looks killer at any part of the day, but especially during the evening, when the light just shines golden.
I shot a mix of digital and film here (Ilford HP5+ and Kodak Ultramax and Gold is perfect for this light), aiming to keep it all feeling honest. Nothing too posed. No making people stand in lines for hours. Just the story of the weekend as it actually was.
Tips if You're Planning Your Own Plas Dinam Wedding
Make use of the whole place. It’s built for weekends, not just one day.
Don’t stress the weather it’s Wales. Bring the umbrellas and keep going.
The stables space is perfect for dinner and dancing.
Embrace the communal feel. Big dinners, long chats in the living room, morning coffee in dressing gowns.
If you want formal perfection, maybe it’s not the venue. If you want a house party that happens to include a wedding, it’s perfect.
And yes!! Have as many cakes as you want.
