Best Wedding Venues in Nottinghamshire.

Have you noticed, there never seems to be any in-between when you search for something like this through google or any online directories..

There was a time, not so long ago and still relatively the case now, where these folks who dictate what a wedding looks like, is either the Traditional type. You know, the sash covered chairs in a lifeless hotel room and everything is bright white and bling or the total opposite extreme! Showcasing the ultimate dungeons and dragons, sword dwelling goth wedding if you searched for anything relating to the term “Alternative Wedding”.

As though Alternative literally meant you only have one other option… But I assure you, that’s definitely not the case! (Though if either of those choices are your thang, then go for it!)

Enter the great Rustic charm wedding boom of 2015 and we’ve almost balanced it out a little.. I guess what I’m trying to say is that you do not have to settle for anything less than what you set out to achieve and want to remember fondly for the many years to come. And if you’re really looking to do things in your own way. Check out this post on Elopements and Tiny wedding planning HERE

With the rise of a hipster generation, which by the way, is no way a bad thing, because these are the new companies and suppliers that are giving people options and the ability to completely customise.. And guess what, sure you bloody well can apply that to your wedding! Small independent pop ups, Breweries with open plan Taphouses, street food vendors that constantly push out the boat to cook up INCREDIBLE delights that just so happen to be able to roll up in a van to YOUR WEDDING and start lobbing out Tacos, or Wood-fired Pizza and Burgers and everything in between!

  1. Cleaver & Wake, Modern Nottingham Wedding Venue & Restaurant

Although this building is fairly new and the first to go up in the newly regenerated Island Quarter of Nottingham, it proudly sits like it’s always been here, in some mad clash of ornate victorian architecture and brutalist industrialism, which just seems to work so well! No doubt a nod to the land’s past with the restaurant being named after two victorian lace dressers.. A huge part of industry in this area.

Walking into the already impressive building, you’ll find that they’ve leant on this concept but also managed to squeeze in proper luxury with a mid-century New York Cocktail bar vibe where the soft curves match those gigantic looming arched windows that wrap around the building, and when that light hits right… Man does it hit! The blue, teal and rust colour palette just feels so classically soft and warm. All designed by Notts based interior architect gurus Macaulay Sinclair

At the helm of all of this is Masterchef Laurence Henry so for foodies and lovers of architecture and interiors that make you feel like your bossin’ it up in a New York movie set.. Then I’d highly recommend this Venue.

Along with that killer light, there are so many great opportunities for portraits in and around the building. Plus being in the city, gives great scope for transport and hotel links for all your guests.

Cleaver & Wake holds unto 70 of your mates seated and dining during the day and up to 150 evening guests.
They’re also fully licensed to hold your wedding ceremony so no need to worry about venue hopping either!

2. Jason Works, Eclectic Loft Wedding Venue, Loughborough

When first hearing about this place, I couldn’t quite believe something like this could exist, and in Loughborough too! Jason Works is an old factory building which has been painstakingly renovated into a creatives co-working space of dreams, and is just one of the mad places behind pop-up event gurus and community driven lasses, Our Neighbourhood.

But above this is all where the magic lies, I’d go as far as to say it’s the town’s best kept secret.. A huge open plan loft space, with all its industrial characteristics left in tact, throw in some awesome artworks, stylish and well thought out interior design and you have the coolest wedding space/Airbnb Apartment I’ve witnessed… That’s right, it also doubles as an apartment that will sleep up to 12 guests! So either before your wedding or when you’re done with partying, you can just retire to the Bedroom with its ensuite and copper bathtub in the middle of the room to spend the rest of your wedding extravaganza in style.

With it’s big factory windows lining either side of the building there’s so much natural light, making great spots for portraits.

Being open plan leaves loads of options for setting up your wedding ceremony space AND leaving room for seating and tables to be positioned and rearranged for different parts of your day.
There’s an open Kitchen so you can bring in catering and have it be part of the whole experience
Such a cool place if you’re looking to have a chilled wedding day that’s totally unique.

4. The River Mill Wedding Venue - Darley Abbey, Derbyshire.

As a sister venue to the renown Wedding behemoth that is the West Mill, you know you’re going to be in good hands with The River Mill venue, formerly set up and used as a beautiful bar & restaurant over the pandemic, proved this place to be extremely popular and no doubt gave the team a great insight into the foods, drinks and parties they could dish up in here!

The perfect setting for a smaller but equally as beautiful wedding venue fit for your ceremony and reception all conveniently rolled into one.

The lighting and decor is stunning all by itself, so you can leave it be with all it’s natural industry charm. Alternatively hire in one of the recommended suppliers to dress up the venue of your dreams.. 5. Cockliffe Country House, Nottinghamshire Country House Wedding Venue

I love this wedding venue. Not only is it just 15 minutes from my house, the team are a joy to work with, and it’s perfectly country house estate wedding vibes without feeling overwhelmingly big! There’s lots of space with pockets dotted all over where your guests can mingle about without feeling confined to one room or area.

The main house dates way back to 1678 as a couple of big cottages before it was extended for farm use, producing woodcocks for opulent local shoots. So if you’re looking for a little more tradition with a typical English garden feel then this Nottinghamshire wedding venue should be on your list!
The team will work with you to make the day unique right down to customised food menus to fit your vibe.

With stunning grounds and quirky little corners throughout the venue there are some perfect photo opportunities to be had without having to be dragged far away from your wedding party pals!

6. The West Mill - Exclusive use Industrial Wedding Venue, Derby.

If you’ve ventured over to my blog previously, you’d notice that I included this venue before. Because this place is SO vastly adaptable to whatever type of Wedding party you want to throw, I had to include it in this Alternative Wedding Venue list too. No wonder this Derbyshire Wedding venue is so popular with anyone who attends one of their many taster events.

The last wedding I shot here gave the place a Neon overhaul, subconsciously inspired by their favourite bars visited on their worldly travels, With signs of glowing Reds and Pinkish tones, all tied together with the bold letting chosen for their DIY stationery painted on OSB boards, really gave it the modern industrial bar feel.
Being able to have the run of the four floors of this behemoth of a building gives you inspiration for days. Not that you actually need to do anything with it. This wedding venue in it’s bare naked glory will impress every one of your guests! Even Granny!

7. The Malt Cross - Historic Music Hall - City Wedding Venue

A hidden gem in Nottingham City, that has honoured its traditional victorian past and filling it with Music, community and inclusivity!
If you didn’t know this building was here, you’d probably just pass on by without a clue. Nestled down the narrow St. James's Street, just off the Market Square, So you can safely say it’s bang in the middle of the City.

Once you walk through the doors, you’re immediately met with the pouring of light through the humongous arched glass ceiling which adds a crapload of character and old worldly charm, if that’s what you’re after. The upper floor balcony which wraps around the building is just glorious and holds around 100 people (less if seated).. I love this bar. It’s a place you can Chill out for a quiet afternoon with curly fries and THEEE BEST HOT CHOCOLATE. Or party late into the night! So for a Wedding celebration, I would absolutely and highly recommend checking this place out.

8. Holme Pierrepont Hall, Nottingham Wedding Venue

What more could you ask for if you’re looking at booking a manor house for your matrimonial celebrations? Holme Pierrepont Hall is a Tudor built house dating back as far as the 1500’s AND still occupied by its descendants! So expect incredible antique furniture, quirky decor and eccentrics that can only come with owning a flippin’ huge, beautiful beast of a manor. Robert is a wonderful host and the team make sure everything is exclusive to you on the wedding day, making the experience pretty unique. With access to the Manor, the grade II listed gardens and a wondrous courtyard. It’s all there for the taking!
Plonked in it's own little 30 acre estate, it’s quietly secluded with some incredible views, you wouldn’t know you’re only 15 mins from the City!

I think nostalgia is something that is to be fully embraced and I can only imagine the kind of shindigs that went on here over the years. Eccentrics, romantics and heretics rejoice and come together to keep the flame truly alive and let Holme Pierrepont see the parties and mad hatters it deserves!

Whether this wedding venue tickles your fancy for a traditional English garden wedding or an all out shindig that’s truly unique to you.. (You know which I’m leaning towards) I always try and let you acknowledge and embrace the things that bakes your apples and makes you tick!

9. Pheasantry Brewery, Farm Microbrewery Wedding Venue, Newark.

BEER & PARTY LOVERS UNITE! Based on a 2000 acre farmland out in the Newark country, this converted barn was restored initially as a microbrewery with a goal of producing some great traditional ales, and once you’ve achieved that, well what else can you do? Turn the existing barn into one awesome wedding venue!
Danielle and her team of coordinators are amazing, and will make sure everything runs smoothly on the day.

Their motto is that there’s no such thing as a ‘typical wedding’ at the brewery. Exclusive hire and a bespoke service makes sure that you have everything covered, the way you want it. You can get married and have your ceremony either outside in their manicured gardens or inside the converted barn with its airy high ceilings and exposed brickwork. I love a venue that goes hard on promoting a Your day, Your Way mindset and Pheasantry Brewery really do this well!
So if your wedding day vibes are a well organised piss up in a brewery, I am down for that party and this team will lead you well on the way!

10. The Hall Barns, Prestwold Hall, Leicestershire Wedding Venue

In stark contrast to the grandeur of Prestwold Hall, On the same estate, they converted the barns and opened up a second venue. Catering for those who want a relaxed, less formal yet still incredibly detailed experience, the Hall Barns over in Leicestershire give all of that and so much more.

With an outdoor (undercover) ceremony space in the barn’s courtyard setting the pace for the day and venue, everything else is flanked around and easily accessible so you don’t have to wander too far to find the action.
The main barn holds up to 70 legends for the I do’s and seated food and up to 150 for the shindig.

You can also opt for either Canvas or Thatched accommodations by staying in either the quaint onsite cottage which sleeps 6 before or on the night of the Wedding or you can opt to have the field setup with the bell tent glamping village for a festival wedding vibe with up to 10 staying over including a newlywed suite.

I don’t want to use the word rustic, because this venue is so much more than rustic.. It’s actually really elegant and the perfect place for a summer’s wedding where you can feel free to wander and chill out in a relaxed atmosphere.
If you want to check out some more photos and a real wedding day at the Hall Barns, check out Danielle and Phil’s beaut of a day Here

11. Stapleford Park Country House, Leicestershire Chic Wedding Venue

Now, it may well have been this particular wedding but I absolutely LOVED the day that was created and safe to say, it caused a change in my mindset when thinking about these beautifully big fancy wedding venues on country estates.

Think of a fabulous extravagant masked party held up in some beautiful country estate by a bunch of misfits and hooligans. Hosted by a family of vaudeville entertainers and attended by a flood of fashion forward guests, ready to mingle and party in true style celebrating Love and the happy couple.
This was basically the call I had with Laurianne explaining her vision and I was totally on board.
Stapleford Park Country House Hotel is a luxurious wedding venue, a huge country house based near Melton Mowbray in the Leicestershire countryside, set in some stunning grounds and gardens.
And just as you can imagine can hold big weddings of up to 200 folks, whether in the grand hall, over in the Orangery, the smaller Morning & Gilt rooms or throwing everything at it at get full exclusive use of the entire venue! I’m pretty positive that there is something here for you. The featured Glass dome above the staircase is seriously something to behold!

12. The Little Brickhouse Restaurant, Cool, intimate City Wedding Venue

This place is one of those gems that without the wonders of Instagram you’d have to be seriously dialled in to know about.
The labour of love that is Little Brickhouse is owned and operated by couple, Katharina & Joakim. By throwing out inhibitions, the rulebook and not taking things so seriously, they’ve created a hub to which flocks of hipsters tend to gravitate towards. Which can only mean one thing… This place is seriously cool!
A mismatch of Mid Century furniture, Scralled out artworks and quotes adorn the walls and a well thought out pairing of amazing food and natural wines.

As you walk through the door, it’s intimate.. Perfectly laid out for a small romantic gathering of your favourite, coolest mates to sit, dine and celebrate together all before descending down to the basement “Below Bricks” to party the night away to one of their recommended DJ’s spinning vintage vinyl gems all night.

A perfectly apt sleek city wedding should definitely have this place down on your list to check out.

13. Chocolate Factory Events - Derby Warehouse Wedding Venue

Home to Bustler Market, who hold some of the best street food and pop up events in the midlands, The Chocolate factory is as you guessed, an old factory that’s been renovated and repurposed to perfectly host Weddings and other cool events.
It’s Derby’s biggest and most adaptable space, catering for small weddings right up to 1,000 people events.. So there’s not a lot that phases these folks.

Perfectly set up for foodies with a list of amazing street food vendors longer than yer arm to cater your Wedding as well as regularly putting on Wedding fairs full of likeminded suppliers, so you’re gonna be in good hands when you choose to book this venue!

With its majestic open apex ceiling and exposed steelwork, it’s been sympathetically remodelled to boast that effortlessly stylish feel, keeping lots open to the imagination of you or a Wedding Stylist to make it your own… (I’d personally recommend Tara Knott to do the job!)

Keeping the spirit, grit and cool factor of this industrial space will definitely appeal to those looking to do things differently.. And well if you’re a lover of great street food too, then we’re on to a winner.

14. The Riding School, Ivy House Weddings at Calke Abbey.

Ivy House Weddings are working with some of the best wedding suppliers you could ask for at the Riding School. and after attending a couple of their supplier network evenings, How could I not include it in this blog?! A big barn/ out building on the Calke Abbey estate, that has a ton of vibe, and although you could easily throw the rustic barn themed weddings we’ve all come to know and love. The open space with its white washed towering walls not only make it feel light and airy, but also gives you essentially a blank canvas to work with that would just as easily host a modern / neon industrial shindig for instance, what I’m saying is that you have an oyster of a world… The world is your Oyster is what I’ve been trying to say throughout this entire thread!! It’s Your Darn Wedding Day, Do it exactly how you want!

I want you to challenge your creativity and be your own cheerleader in pushing those doubts aside and not have to stick with a traditional format that neither you or your partner want.
I totally get that family can be a huge factor in these decisions. Though ultimately you have to go with what will make you happy and throw the greatest party for your own community! Doing it your own way will bring all of that Nostalgia back in a flash for years to come, for both you and all of your guests!

15. The Canalhouse, Nottingham - Warehouse, Bar Wedding Venue

The Canalhouse | Wedding Venue in Nottingham Photo by: Luke Whittemore Photography

Nestled in between the row of bars that sit on Canal Street near the new/ongoing Broadmarsh site. A former canal museum which is famous for having the canal extending into the building which presumably was used for boat repairs once upon a time. Today it’s home to two Narrow boats moored up inside which make for a great historic feature! (and probably so drunks can’t stumble and take a plunge directly into the water)
The building is grade II listed so has kept all of the industrial charm that you could shake a stick at with its exposed brickwork, beams and steel girders, if that’s what you’re after! The upstairs function space is also pretty much a blank canvas for you to unleash your vision upon. Perfect if you’re looking for an Alternative Wedding Venue which doesn’t scream “I’m a Wedding Venue!”. The large factory windows bring in plenty of luscious light so photographing the space is an absolute joy too!

The venue also spills outside, with a large terrace that sits right on the Canal side. The afternoon/evening sun comes down and spills some stunning light on this side too, so perfect if you want to grab some of those golden hour photos along the water’s edge. Heck, and if you truly want to arrive in style, hire a boat from somewhere and rock up right at the side of the venue!

Their seasonal menus are amazing with all onsite catering and the place is run and operated by Castle Rock brewery so you know you’ll also have a vast selection of real ales and continental beers serving your guests up to have the time of their lives!

The space is a cosy manageable size so you can invite just the right amount of folks that you’re happy to party with. (around 100 seated for food & upto 200 for cocktail party time)

The rest is up to you! Book an awesome band, Let a genius event stylist loose on the job and throw the good people a party that’ll be on their tongues for years to come!

16. Liquid Light Brewery & Taproom, Nottingham Alternative Wedding Venue

Liquid Light Brewery started back in 2017 and like many small batch breweries, began at the home of Thom and Grace brewing up some incredible beers, naturally grew to accommodate their business. Inspired by the liquid and oil light projections from the heady days of the 60’s. So if you’re looking for some serious psychedelic or boho vibes, then this is an amazing place to work with! Though this venue isn’t specifically a Wedding venue, the idea here is to give you options and alternative ways to celebrate your wedding, your way! Meaning the possibilities are endless, you just need to open your mind!
You can dry hire the taproom, so whether you want to hire a Celebrant to have your ceremony tied in with reception for an inspired and tailored wedding experience or just throw your party here, it’s totally up to you!

Liquid Light Brewery, being located just around the corner from Sneinton Market also have strong ties with Nottingham Street Food Club vendors, who’ve just moved into their new location as part of the  Future Makers projects and Creative Quarter of Nottingham. So you’ll be able to drool over all the culinary delights available and find endless amounts of inspiration around this ever expanding part of Nottingham city.

17. Nottingham Contemporary, Modern Art Gallery Wedding Venue

Nottingham Contemporary is not one for the faint hearted but for those who want to get creative and want to share their love of modern art, then this venue will definitely get your creative juices flowing!

Nottingham Contemporary stands proud. Built into the side of the sandstone walls of Nottingham’s unique cave systems, this nod to brutalist design architecture, New York City and the Lace Market in which it is situated. It’s easy to spot from a distance and being based slap bang in the ever expanding creative quarter of the city, you’ll have no problem in finding some incredible designers and suppliers to help you throw all the uniqueness into your wedding celebrations.

The ‘Space’ as it’s known is specifically designed and built to challenge artists and their installations so I strongly believe that you should do the same when it comes to planning a wedding here too! A concrete canvas ready for you to splurge your artistic visions all over!
If you’re looking for a completely unique, modernist Wedding venue that breaks all the moulds, then you should probably check this one out in a flash!

18. Cosy Club, Nottingham City Restaurant Wedding

If you’re after pure opulence, throw a cocktail party! Ain’t that what they say?! Cosy Club give you the full Art Deco experience, they took Nottingham’s old Reform Club, where the wealthy used to meet for lunch and probably talk politics and such. They gave it a new lease of life whilst keeping many of the original features of this proper nice building! You should take a look at hiring one (or more) of the private hire rooms here at the Cosy Club. Whether that’s just a small wedding soirée or a larger gathering. The Byron Room and Cocktail bar is for around 15 guests, or for larger parties up to 100 guests, there are more rooms you can hire! (Imperial Room).  Included can be champagne drinks reception, canapés for guests and incredible food menus. Leave it to them, sit back, relax in your newly acquired wedding splendour and let all your good folks ply you with Cocktails and cheers of goodwill! Heck, why don’t you, hire a Jazz band to keep the vibe at full tilt?! (Just don’t talk about politics though)

Keep it all completely self contained, Hire an amazing Celebrant like Louise at Kick Ass Gatherings for the most unique ceremony to suit you too.. If you want to read up some more on hiring a celebrant, check out this post HERE

Nottingham Registry Office Weddings

19. Nottingham Council House | Nottingham City Registry Office Wedding.

Some of the above City based venues that aren’t licensed to hold a legal marriage ceremony, means that you’ll have to do the legal and official ceremony parts at a Registry Office. There are plenty around and you can find a registry office local to you through your local council website. I’ve done another post on Registry offices and what you need to do on my Elopement blog post Here. There are a lot of people who do this low key, then book a Celebrant to hold a more personal ceremony at your Wedding celebrations.

If you’re on a budget and don’t want to book an exclusive Wedding Venue, then it’s a great option. It’s always good to check with your potential venue whether they have a license, but it’s not the end of the road if they don’t!

I’ve included the Nottingham City Council House on my Wedding Venue list to give you plenty of options. Also, this building is an absolute beauty of a venue inside and out! And a significant part of most folk’s journey into adulthood if you’ve lived in Nottingham for any length of time.. Where as angsty teens, we’d would meet by the Lions to listen to Heavy Metal and skate around the Market Square!

If you’re considering a City Wedding or Elopement in Nottingham then consider the Council house to be one of your stops. As a Wedding Photographer, it is so much fun to capture you sauntering through the City, all clobbered up in your finery! The cheers and compliments from the public bring a heck of amount of joy to newly wedded couple’s faces!

As with above, a council registry office venue at Bridgford Hall. Set just minutes out of the City in a pretty grand grade II listed hall overlooking Bridgford Park.. So if you’d rather not be smack bang amongst the hustle and bustle for your legal wedding ceremony part of the day, you can do!

Then as soon as that part is done with, you can hop on one of those Yellow Scooter things and dash off into the City for your Wedding Celebrations at any of those City based Venues I mentioned above! Sounds good doesn’t it?! Even I want to get married again whilst writing up all of this!
